At the end of a quiet first half where both teams failed to break the deadlock, attention briefly turned to what is coming up on Sky Sports later in the week.

And when the opening night of Premier League Darts was mentioned, Neville was quick to comment.

The 50-year-old pundit said: “I think you’ll also find Salford are playing… dunno why you’d do the darts promo.”

Neville is a co-owner of Salford City, who face Accrington Stanley in League Two on Thursday.

The pundit has a top role at Moor Lane alongside David Beckham – who he bought the club with as part of a new consortium last year.

Prior to the 2025 takeover, the duo were part of an ownership group with their ‘Class of 92’ team-mates.

The group included Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville.

Neville’s mention of Salford came after he commented on a “cheeky tactic” from Chelsea when they were attempting to defend a corner from Arsenal.

Blues head coach Liam Rosenior opted to play with fire by pushing Liam Delap, Malo Gusto and Wesley Fofana up the pitch during an early Arsenal corner, anticipating a counter attack.

There were unusual scenes as the trio sprinted forward, triggering panic among the Arsenal players, who were forced to run back and track them.

Commentator Neville was baffled by the stunt as he said: “Ooh thats a cheeky little tactic” before claiming the team were trying something “very different” to catch the Gunners out.

Arsenal went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to a last-second goal from super-sub Kai Havertz.

They booked a spot in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium as a result with a 4-2 victory on aggregate.
