‘I thought this was a fake account

TREVOH Chalobah caught the attention of fans online after using Nigerian Pidgin English in a brilliant social media post, with a cheeky dig at West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

The England international took to social media after the match, sharing a photo from stoppage time that showed him jumping for an aerial ball inside Chelsea’s penalty area alongside Areola.

Alongside the picture, he added: “Areola no bi today you wan turn to Benfica goalkeeper.”

The post quickly went viral on X, and has racked up 69 thousand likes, while being viewed over four million times.

Fans were stunned by his words in the comments, to say the least.

One remarked: “I thought this was a fake account for a second”

Chalobah is an England international, but was born in Freetown, Sierra-Leone, before moving to England aged two.

His comments related to the moment in the game when Areola was sent up from the back in search of a late equaliser for the Hammers.

It was a move that paid dividends for former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in the Champions League days earlier, with Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin nodding home a late goal for his side against Real Madrid to see them into the UCL play-offs.

Chalobah was part of a Chelsea side that produced a remarkable second-half comeback for the second time in a week.

He was a standout performer at the back, helping the team survive late pressure, including this final corner that was cleared with the last action of the game.

The Blues went into the break trailing 2–0 but responded strongly in the second half, making it the first time they had overturned a two-goal deficit at half-time in the Premier League era.

João Pedro pulled one back in the 57th minute before Marc Cucurella equalised in the 70th, with Enzo Fernandez almost exposing himself with a wardrobe malfunction while celebrating the winner in stoppage time.

On Tuesday night, Liam Rosenior‘s side are hoping they can complete another turnaround.

They travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, and head to North London already 3-2 down from the previous leg.

The Gunners had gone 2-0 up in the tie through Ben White and Viktor Gyokeres.

Alejandro Garnacho then pulled one back – before Martin Zubimendi made it 3-1. Garnacho kept the Blues in the tie with another strike in the 83rd minute.
