Newcastle set for Sandro Tonali transfer fight with Arsenal one of THREE Premier League giants interested in midfielder

NEWCASTLE UNITED are gearing up for a Sandro Tonali transfer tug-of-war.

The Magpies rubbished early reports from Germany today that Arsenal had made a deadline day approach for the Italian midfielder, 25.

SunSport has learned that no talks between the clubs occurred – but that could all change once the window re-opens this summer.

And the Gunners are one of THREE Premier League giants already plotting a potential £100m blockbuster swoop.

Mikel Arteta is known to be a huge admirer of Tonali’s. And he would love to pair the ex-AC Milan ace with Declan Rice and add him to his ranks at the Emirates.

Though the Gunners would face a huge battle to land the star. SunSport can reveal that Pep Guardiola is another big fan.

Along with Newcastle team-mate Tino Livramento, he is eyeing a potential double raid on Tyneside.

Chelsea are also known to be monitoring Tonali closely.

And with Toon’s Champions League qualification hopes fading following the 4-1 loss at Liverpool, they know a potential lack of top European football could lead to some difficult conversations.

SunSport does understand that Tonali and wife Juliette, who recently welcomed a baby boy named Leonardo into the world, are both happy in the North East and are not actively looking for an exit.

And there is no suggestion, and little chance, that he would follow Alexander Isak’s antics by going on strike in order to try and force a move.

Tonali enjoys a close relationship with Newcastle boss Eddie Howe and remains grateful for the club’s backing during his ten-month betting ban shortly after his £55m arrival in 2023.

But there is a growing feeling in his camp that he has paid back those dues with his influential role in last season’s Carabao Cup and Champions League qualification, where he has also helped them to advance into the play-off round.

However, if Newcastle fail to make it to the continent’s most prestigious competition again, then the lure of playing for a club who regularly challenge for the title and are in the Champions League could see him knocking on Howe’s door.

Newcastle have no intentions of selling Tonali or any of their other top stars. And while they would respect his wishes should he ask to leave, just like with £130m Isak, Newcastle would still have enough power to demand top money.

That is due to Tonali penning an extended contract, which runs until 2029 with the option for an additional 12 months, during his ban.

And that ensures Newcastle will be able to look for at least a £100m figure for their talisman.
