Dominic Solanke scores jaw-dropping scorpion kick in mirror image of Giroud’s Puskas winner for first PL goal of season

DOMINIC SOLANKE may have scored the goal of the season with his wonderfully inventive equaliser against Manchester City.

The England international produced an Oliver Giroud-esque scorpion kick to level the scores at 2-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Conor Gallagher did phenomenally well to steal the ball from a comfortable City down the right hand side to kickstart the move.

The former Chelsea star then swung a ball into the box and despite it being behind Solanke, the striker managed to perform a scorpion kick to find the back of the net.

The effort was so unorthodox and unlikely that the expected goal metric gave the forward just 0.04 chance.

Solanke has not long been back in the Spurs team after a frustrating spell on the sidelines injured, but his brace helped them back in the game against title-chasing City and snatch a 2-2 draw.

Ironically, his goals look like they may help Arsenal perserve a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

The Sky Sports commentators were in disbelief when Solanke’s effort looped over Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the Man City net.

Gary Neville said: “It’s behind him… will he ever score a better goal than that? I don’t think so. That will be right there at the top.

“It’s probably not as good as the one I saw at the Emirates years ago. [Olivier] Giroud was further out.”

Clinton Morrison on BBC Radio 5 Live was similarly in disbelief.

He said: “He won’t score another goal like that in his career.”

The £60 million man has spearheaded Tottenham’s second half resurgence after looking lifeless at 2-0 down.

On a hat-trick, Solanke was replaced in injury time after rolling his ankle, but the striker insists it’s nothing serious.

Speaking after the game, he wasn’t shy to talk about how much he enjoyed his goal.

“It was a lovely goal, to be fair. I had to improvise a bit, but I’ll definitely be watching that back a few times.”

With no clear number two option to Harry Kane in the England set-up, scoring that brace in front of the watching Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel will have done Solanke’s World Cup chances no harm at all.

The ankle injury the former Bournemouth man suffered against Man City back in August has limited his season.

Spurs will be hoping that lightning didn’t strike twice in the reverse fixture.
