PORTSMOUTH are expected to be fined after their showdown with West Brom had to be halted when one of the officials was struck in the eye by a piece of CHEWING GUM thrown from the crowd.
Pompey cruised to a 3-0 victory courtesy of goals from Conor Chaplin, Millenic Alli and Ebou Adams at Fratton Park.

It allowed John Mousinho’s side to claw themselves four points clear of the dreaded Championship drop zone.
But the clash was marred when linesman James Wilson was hit by a piece of chewing gum.
Ref Matthew Donohue then briefly SUSPENDED the contest ten minutes from time after he was alerted to the incident.
Wilson was seen rubbing his eye and the chewing gum was handed to the fourth official.

Portsmouth announced over the tannoy that “a missile” had been “thrown from the south stand” and appealed for anyone who had seen the culprit to contact the club.
And Pompey will almost certainly face a serious FA charge for the unsavoury incident.
Wilson chose not to leave the action despite the worrying moment in the closing stages.

The win also allowed them to leapfrog fellow strugglers West Brom in the table.

And their wretched form has left them just three points clear of the relegation zone.
Portsmouth will be looking to make home advantage count again on Tuesday – when they host Ipswich.
