Shock moment fans of Celtic and Utrecht clash as fireworks ‘launched at police’ ahead of Europa League tie

CELTIC’S Europa League meeting with Utrecht tonight is a do-or-die situation for the Hoops.

But it has led to shocking scenes between the two sets of supporters before kick-off in Glasgow.

There was huge police presence in the city centre due to the Utrecht ultras’ presence.

But it didn’t stop the fan groups colliding outside the Celtic Supporters Club on London Road.

Fireworks can be seen being launched towards Celtic fans outside the building.

Emergency vehicles can be seen in the background, just out of range of the explosions.

The fireworks send the groups of fans scattering, although it isn’t clear whether any of the fans were actually hit by the projectiles.

And Herald journalist Matthew Lindsay revealed on his account on X that the Utrecht hooligans had also targeted POLICE.

He posted: “Scuffles between the police and the young team outside the Celtic Supporters Club on London Road there.

“Rocks thrown and several rockets fired at officers.

“Riot police with shields have chased after those responsible.”

SunSport has contacted Police Scotland for comment.

Elsewhere, Hoops fans were left baffled as club media posted a team sheet graphic before the game which featured injured defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The American’s season was ended by an Achilles tendon injury way back in October.

But a post on the club’s account on X saw Carter-Vickers included in the lineup.

The post was quickly deleted, as it was revealed the graphic was actually from Celts’ match against Red Star Belgrade back in September.

Reo Hatate was also listed as being a starter, but the Japan international isn’t even in the matchday squad, and was replaced in the corrected graphic by Arne Engels.
