Swedish starlet Bergvall is now set to go under the knife following further assessment.

Spurs fear he could be out for up to three months, with boss Thomas Frank admitting on Thursday that the injury “looks like it could be a longer one.”

The North Londoners are already facing a crock crisis with seven players out long term – with five stars picking up injuries in the last five games.

First, winger Mohammed Kudus damaged his quad tendon against Sunderland on January 4 and is out until April.

Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur then hurt his hamstring three days later at Bournemouth, prompting surgery which should keep him out for three months.

Three days on from that Richarlison also suffered a hamstring blow in the FA Cup loss at home to Aston Villa, keeping him out for seven weeks.

Ben Davies was unlucky man No4 when he fractured his ankle a week later at home to West Ham, before Bergvall became the latest victim Dortmund.

James Maddison could miss the entire season with a serious knee injury picked up in pre-season, while Dejan Kulusevski has not featured since May’s kneecap surgery.

Frank, who faces Burnley on Saturday, said on Thursday: “Some of the (injuries) are like, ‘OK, what’s happening here?’ It seems like we are cursed or something like that.”
