Millwall condemn ‘disgusting’ racist abuse towards Femi Azeez as club release angry statement

MILLWALL have condemned the “disgusting” racial abuse aimed at Femi Azeez after their defeat to Hull City.

The 24-year-old was sent off in the 76th minute of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at The Den for kicking out at Kyle Joseph.

According to Millwall, the midfielder was racially abused on social media in the aftermath of the match.

And the club has issued a scathing statement slamming the perpetrator of the abuse.

It read: “Millwall Football Club is aware of racist abuse directed at Femi Azeez on social media following Saturday’s fixture.

“The club condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms and is angered Femi has been subject to such disgusting abuse.

“Racism, or any form of discrimination, has no place in football, or in society, and we stand firmly with Femi.

“It is important to highlight the account holder responsible for this abuse appears to have no affiliation with either Millwall or Hull City.

“Nonetheless, such actions are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“The club will continue to work with the relevant authorities and platforms where necessary, and we remain fully committed to promoting equality, inclusion and respect within the game.

“Everyone at the club offers Femi and his family its full support.”

The Den faithful were quick to throw their support behind Azeez, who has six goals and one assist in 13 appearances to his name this season.

One wrote on X: “Femi is one of our special Lions family. Once a Lion, always a Lion.”

“Racism just shows a real lack of basic intelligence and a real level of idiocy.”

Another said: “Femi is a brilliant guy, Christian & excellent footballer.

“All the fans love him & support him, but unfortunately, idiots exist everywhere.”

And another said: “Hope it gets sorted, no place for racism.”

The club condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms and is angered Femi has been subject to such disgusting abuse.”

A Millwall statement

One remarked: “Hope they get sorted out immediately, we’re with you Femi.”

Another chimed in: “Femi has a good head on his shoulders and will know that the whole fanbase and club are behind him.”

Azeez’s straight red will see him miss Millwall’s matches against Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town and Bristol City.

He will likely be restored to the starting XI for the Lions’ New Year’s Day trip to Southampton.
