Jake Paul Called Delusional for Believing He Can Beat Joshua

Spencer Oliver believes Jake Paul is “deluded enough” to think he’s got a chance to defeat Anthony Joshua on December 19th. Like a lot of fans, he believes that Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) has no shot at beating the #3 WBC-ranked heavyweight contender, AJ.

Oliver says there are levels to the sport, and Jake hasn’t done enough in his short five-year pro career to be at the same level as the former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs).

Wealth & Comfort Affecting AJ’s Game

Paul, 28, sees what many fans have observed in Joshua, 36. He’s become chinny, inactive, and isn’t the fighter that he once was when he turned pro in 2013. Above that, Joshua is rich with a net worth estimated at $150–$195 million.

Psychologically Fragile? Signs Say Yes

The wealth he’s accumulated has clearly taken something out of him as well, as he’s become increasingly more inactive over the last three years.

Moreover, his psychological mindset has been questioned by fans. Joshua’s “darkness retreat,” in which he paid £2,000 to lock himself away for four days from October 16 to October 20, 2023, led some to believe he’s beginning to crumble upstairs. Many fans believe Joshua is just a basket case at this point.

Paul and Joshua will meet on December 19th in an eight-round fight at the Kaseya Center in Miami. The event will be broadcast live on Netflix.

“From Jake Paul’s side, he’s deluded enough to believe that if he gets inside, he’s [got a chance to defeat Anthony Joshua],” said Spencer Oliver to talkSport Boxing. “He does believe because otherwise it wouldn’t be going ahead. He truly believes he can win this fight.”

If Jake Pressures Early, AJ Could Crack

It’s interesting to note the reaction Joshua fans have to Jake believing he can win. They seem to be angry about it and not accepting the possibility of AJ losing to Paul. If they look with eyes open at what happened with Joshua in his last fight and other bouts, they’d accept the reality that he’s not the same fighter he once was. He’s gotten old.

“He doesn’t realize that there are levels to this game,” said Spencer. “He’s stupid enough to get to the ring with Anthony Joshua. Yeah, he has lost those fights, but he has gotten up. But we’re talking about world-class punches. We’re talking about levels. If he chinny at Jake Paul’s level? The answer is categorically no.”

Since 2014, Olly Campbell has brought readers clear ringside perspective and a steady voice on boxing’s biggest nights.
