It comes as the former England Under-21 star revealed he suffered a hyperextension in his knee which has turned out to be a ‘complicated injury’ for the midfielder.

His boss has been left frustrated over the situation admitting he has left the ball in the court of Cantwell and told him to knock on his door when he is ready to return to action.

The player himself has told fans not to listen to the ‘nonsense’ that spreads online as he set the record straight over his continued absence.

He wrote on Instagram: “Against Stoke I suffered a hyperextension in my knee.

“It has turned out to be a complicated injury which has really been hard for me as I was feeling very strong and efficient.

“Injuries are part of the game and I’m working everyday to be back as soon as possible.

“Keep supporting the team and don’t listen to all the nonsense that seems to circulate on social media.

“See you soon Rovers fans.”

Speaking to BBC Sport Lancashire, Rovers boss Ismael said: “Don’t ask me again. Every time I get disappointed.

“Every time it’s push back, push back, push back, push back. I said to Toddy: ‘Come to me, knock on my door and say I’m ready to play, otherwise I will be waiting’.

“It can be tomorrow, it can be in one week. I don’t know. This is terrible.

“I will prepare [for Ipswich] with the players I’ve got and if he’s coming around the corner and saying, ‘I’m ready’, I will be happy’.

“He’s frustrated because he’s still feeling something.

“He can train with consistency but he still feels something.

“Toddy is a player who needs to be right in his mind.

“I told him. ‘I need you to be 100 percent and not 80 percent and thinking about your injury’. That’s why it takes too long.

Todd Cantwell posted to his Instagram stories

“But now it’s too much because you see seven, eight players, potential regular starters for us, it’s tough.

“We manage well at the minute but I could use some players back as soon as possible.”

The games come thick and fast in the English Championship with Blackburn in action again on Tuesday night against Ipswich Town.

Rovers sit 18th in the table with 20 points from 17 matches to date.

They have three home games on the trot against the Tractor Boys, Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United as they look to march up the league standings.
