“Power, pace & huge experience.

“Welcome home, Cameron.”

Newsome confirmed Jerome’s place in their first-team matchday squad on Saturday for a home clash against South Leeds.

They play in the Yorkshire Amateur League (YAL) and currently sit bottom of the table having played seven.

Newsome have two in hand on most other teams in their division and have played three less than some but have still only won twice so far this season.

They add Jerome, who boasts over 700 senior appearances at professional level with more than 150 goals across a range of teams.

He made 211 Premier League appearances, scoring 32 times, featuring for Birmingham City, Stoke City, and Norwich City.

Jerome also spent time at Crystal Palace, Derby County, MK Dons, and Turkish Super League outfit Goztepe.

In 2021 Jerome moved to Luton Town before ending his career at Bolton Wanderers.

He was capped at England Under-21 level and came on as a stoppage time substitute in the 2011 League Cup final win over Arsenal for Birmingham.

Jerome grew up in Huddersfield, starting out in the ranks of their youth setup before going to the Middlesbrough academy and then Cardiff City.

Now 39, Jerome played for over two decades before hanging up his boots on the professional scene last summer.

Speaking about why he is taking to the pitch again, Jerome said: “It’s just to enjoy football socially and keep fit.

“I just want to enjoy a kick around with the lads without it being too serious.

“Knowing some people who are involved with the club and some players who play, it made sense to me.”

Newsome spokesman Paul Farrell said: “There’s been so much interest since we announced it and the media have picked up on it too.

“They’ve called us ‘rock bottom Newsome’ because we’re bottom of the league.

“But we’ve got new head coaches and we’ve signed some good players.

“Cameron will have good players around him and we’ve got another two coming in, one is a former semi-pro.

“The only way is up!”
