F3 winner Voisin chosen as new Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior

FIA Formula 3 race winner Callum Voisin has been chosen as the new Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior for the next two seasons.

The 2023 GB3 champion impressed during a shootout at Silverstone earlier this month when he battled British Touring Car Championship victor Daryl DeLeon, Porsche Sprint Challenge GB frontrunner Samuel Harvey and Dutch Porsche Cayman racer Joep Breedveld across a series of driving, fitness and media assessments to land the prize drive.

The 19-year-old will receive a wealth of opportunities and support from the German manufacturer, including £85,000 towards his Carrera Cup budget for each of the next two seasons.

Voisin was named the winner at Porsche’s Night of Motorsport event at the weekend and, although the single-seater convert was “feeling confident” after the shootout, he said “they didn’t really give away anything” on the day so was unsure how well he had performed.

“I’ve been following Porsches for quite some time so it’s great and really exciting to see what it’s all about,” Voisin told Autosport. “Being backed by a brand like Porsche is incredible – I just want to make the most of all the opportunities.

“It’s going to be a busy winter for me – I’ve got a lot to learn and a lot to adapt to, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

Voisin finished 14th in the F3 standings this year during his sophomore season with Rodin Motorsport, which included a best result of second after he was victorious at Spa in 2024, but he knew his spell in single-seaters would be limited as budgets increased.

Instead, he feels now is the right time to switch back to sportscars, having initially began his car racing career with an impressive Ginetta Junior campaign in 2021 before he stepped up to GB3.

“It’s been a goal of mine for a while now moving over to sportscars and endurance racing, it’s looking a very appealing path to go down,” Voisin added.

“I always knew my time in single-seaters would eventually run out – because of better results than expected that career went on a little longer than we initially expected. I learned a huge amount in terms of experience, and I can take all of that into the GT and prototype route.”

Voisin follows in the footsteps of James Wallis as the new Junior. While Wallis was seventh in this year’s points table, each of the previous five Juniors won the Carrera Cup championship during their two-year scholarship.
