‘That might be an opportunity’

The former Premier League manager has been out of the game since his 40-day tenure at Leeds United in 2023.

Allardyce, 71, was brought in to Elland Road in a last-ditch attempt to keep the club in the top-flight but ultimately failed as they were relegated.

But after 907 days since he last graced the touchline, the veteran manager has suggested he could make a shock comeback.

Speaking to the Daily Mail he admitted he would be open to talks with clubs should he be approached.

But in a more surprising twist, the former Newcastle and West Ham boss added that an international job would be appealing.

Allardyce stated that the role would be more flexible, which would benefit his family life as he would not have his diary filled every day.

He said: “If I pop up on a club’s radar, I’d be more than happy to have a chat.

“I haven’t had any conversations. I’m not ringing everybody up saying ‘give me that job.’

“I don’t think the family, having supported me all my life, want me to do that anymore. They don’t want to pack up and go.

“Maybe an international job where you don’t have to be there 24/7, 365 days a year.

“I’m told Mr [Thomas] Tuchel spends a lot of time back in Germany. That might be an opportunity.”

Allardyce does have a brief experience of managing on the international level, as he was named the England boss in July 2016.

He signed a two-year deal and won his first game in charge 1-0 against Slovakia thanks to a late Adam Lallana goal.

But that would be the only time he would sit in the Three Lions dugout.

He left the role by mutual consent after just two months after he was caught in a sting advising on how to “get around” transfer rules on players.

Allardyce therefore only took charge of one game, but does boast a 100 per cent winning record at the international level.

One job that has just become available is in Jamaica after Steve McClaren resigned.

The former Middlesbrough boss stepped down after the Reggae Boyz missed out on automatic qualification to the 2026 World Cup.
