Ex-Premier League star George Baldock left huge fortune for his family after tragic death in swimming pool aged 31

FOOTBALLER George Baldock – who drowned in a swimming pool accident – left a £4million fortune to his baby son, probate documents reveal.

Ex-Sheffield United star Baldock, 31, was found at his home in Athens, in October 2024, where he had been living after signing for Panathinaikos of the Greek Super League.

An inquest into his death there was no alcohol or drugs in his system and the coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Tragically the hearing learned that Baldock had been due to fly home to the UK the day after his accident to celebrate his son Brody’s first birthday.

Now probate papers show the former Sheffield United and MK Dons right-back left a total of £5,781,399.

When his debts were settled the net value of his estate was reduced to £4,091,003.

He died intestate, which means he had not written a will, so the money will pass automatically down to his next of kin.

The court papers say Baldock’s fortune will be administered by his fiancée Annabel Dignam “for the use and benefit of minor Brody Baldock until they reach the age of 18”.

After his death Annabel posted an emotional statement on Instagram saying: “George, the love of my life, my soulmate.

“The perfect Dad to our beautiful boy. You completed me. You were my world and I know we were yours.

“You are here with me in Brody’s smile, giggle and infectious personality. My world will never be the same but I will find a way for Brody. I promise. I love you forever and always G. Your Neen. X.”

Following his death George’s family released a statement saying: “George, you were the most special father, fiance, son, brother, uncle, friend, team-mate and person.

“Your enthusiasm and infectious personality brought so much love to those that were fortunate enough to know you and those that adored you from the stands.

“We will forever cherish the special memories we have of youand you will continue to live on in your beautiful son.

“You were due to fly home today for us to celebrate his first birthday together, but instead we mourn your loss.

“As a family it has been incredibly touching, but equally so very difficult to read the huge number of tributes written by those that knew George and from those whose life he touched.”

Baldock graduated from MK Dons’ youth set-up while he also played for Oxford United, Tamworth and Northampton Town before making his name with Sheffield United.

Baldock made more than 400 appearances in English football and spent seven seasons at Sheffield United.

He starred for the Blades between 2017 and 2024, making more than 219 appearances and earning the nickname Furious George due to his aggressive all-action style.

Baldock helped them to promotion to the Premier League in 2019 – and again in 2023.

And after booking their place at Wembley on May 24, Baldock’s former club organised a touching tribute in his honour.

All sections of the ground rose to sing “Starman” in unison, which was a chant created about Baldock to the tune of David Bowie’s iconic song during his playing days.

Chris Wilder‘s side paraded the Greek flag around the pitch at full-time to pay their own tribute.

The flag had “Star Man” and Baldock’s shirt number, which was No2, written in bold.

Before kick-off a huge Tifo was placed over the home section with Baldock’s picture alongside with the words: “Once a Blade, always a Blade.”

And former Everton star Tom Davies was spotted walking with the Greek flag draped around him.
