Fleetwood Claims Inaugural DP World India Championship Title

Tommy Fleetwood continued his stellar season with a superb final-round performance to win the inaugural DP World India Championship by two shots over Japan’s Keita Nakajima at Delhi Golf Club.

Just three weeks after starring in Europe’s Ryder Cup triumph, Fleetwood produced a dazzling display of shot-making and composure to overturn a two-stroke deficit and finish on 22-under-par, clinching his eighth DP World Tour title and first since the 2024 Dubai Invitational.

The Englishman surged ahead with a run of five birdies in seven holes, mixing eight birdies with a single bogey in a round of 65 to secure victory. Nakajima, who led overnight, carded a 68 to finish second on 20 under, while Shane Lowry, Alex Fitzpatrick, and Thriston Lawrence shared third at 19 under.

A dramatic final day saw several twists on the leaderboard. New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier briefly went two clear after seven birdies in his first 10 holes, but late bogeys and a double dropped him to tied-ninth. Viktor Hovland finished with a spectacular chip-in eagle at the 18th to join Jayden Schaper and Joost Luiten in sixth place.

Fleetwood’s final-day charge began early, reducing Nakajima’s lead with a birdie at the first and rebounding quickly after an early bogey.

Birdies at the seventh, eighth, and ninth holes pushed him into contention, and a long-range putt at the 10th put him in control.

From there, the FedExCup champion showed poise, adding another birdie at the 14th and matching Nakajima’s response at the 17th to maintain his cushion.

After tapping in for par on the 18th, Fleetwood celebrated an emotional victory alongside his young son, Frankie — fulfilling a personal goal he had set earlier in the week.

“He told me, ‘You’ve never won a tournament where I could run onto the 18th green,’” Fleetwood said after his win. “I had that written down all week. It was something I really wanted to make happen — and to share that moment with him was so special.”

Nakajima’s runner-up finish marks his third consecutive top-two result in India, while Lowry closed with a 68 that included five birdies and one bogey. Fitzpatrick’s 67 lifted him into the top three, and Lawrence’s electric back-nine — featuring six under in five holes — matched the mark.

Meanwhile, world No. 3 Rory McIlroy endured a quieter week, finishing tied-26th on 11 under, 11 shots behind Fleetwood, after a final-round 71 featuring four birdies and three bogeys.

Fleetwood’s victory further cements his standing as one of the form players of the year — and adds another memorable chapter to a remarkable 2025 season.
