A goalkeeper appears to take a swing at a fan behind his goal amid the shocking and disgraceful scenes.

The brawl – which brought back memories of Eric Cantona’s infamous kung-fu kick towards a fan – has sparked a police probe.

Footage sent to The Sun showed the scenes which sparked the abandonment of the Northern Premier League clash between Avro, who are based in Oldham, and Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

The match was called off in the 84th minute with Avro leading 6-0 against nine-man Kidsgrove.

But sparks flew when the boss of Kidsgrove claimed a spectator insulted him.

A player is then seen leaping behind the goal into the terraces and appears to confront a fan.

Coaching staff appear to join in the throng, just three yards from a stunned young boy.

As fists fly, one man falls to the floor with up to a dozen men wrestling around him.

During the brawl groups of men are punching each other in the face as they wrestle on the ground.

A woman can be heard shrieking: “Stop! Just stop!”

As those in the brawl are separated items of clothes including trainers and a top are seen sprawled on the floor behind the goal.

Another video shows players being led away from the ugly scenes at the Vestacare Stadium in Oldham.

After the fight, an injured man involved in the melee claimed he was attacked by a member of coaching staff.

He also claimed to have been sexually assaulted during the incident.

Avro said it was “appalled” by the incident.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said officers “are currently investigating the circumstances”.

The incident has also been reported to the Football Association.

In a statement, Avro said: “We as a club are appalled with the behaviour of some of the fans, players and officials of Kidsgrove Athletic.”

It added: “The incident followed the dismissal of one of the Kidsgrove management team who wasn’t on the field of play.”

Staffordshire-based Kidsgrove Athletic also said in a statement: “As a club, we do not condone any form of inappropriate behaviour.

“We remain committed to upholding the values of respect and sportsmanship both on and off the pitch.

“No further statement will be made until the investigation is complete.”

Football fans recall Manchester United superstar Eric Cantona launching himself into the crowd with a “kung-fu kick” during a match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Frenchman’s right boot connected squarely with the chest of Matthew Simmons, who had been viciously taunting him from the stands.

The January 1995 attack earned Cantona a red card, a nine-month ban and 120 hours of community service.
