Sister-in-law Elka Cankova, 63, blamed his death last week from a heart attack on the 20-time title winners’ fall from grace over the past few years.

She said: “For him, Manchester United was his whole life.

“He was very emotional, and after a defeat he would be very low.

“From the period when United started to decline, he himself fell apart.

“It’s possible that it killed him.”

Bulgarian construction worker Marin was inspired to change his name after United’s 1999 Champions League win.

But it took 15 years of legal battles.

When he finally did it The Sun helped him celebrate by organising a private tour of Old Trafford.

United, who beat Liverpool 2-1 yesterday, said the club was “sorry to hear” the news of his death.

And Elka said: “If Manchester was alive, he would be so happy that his favourite team won.”
