Millwall star Massimo Luongo carried off on stretcher against QPR as all four stands applaud stricken midfielder

MASSIMO LUONGO’S season may be over after he was carried off on a stretcher just 15 minutes into Millwall’s derby clash at QPR.

The Australian international midfielder appeared to twist his knee as he challenged QPR striker Michael Frey, and early fears suggest he may have ruptured his cruciate ligament.

Luongo, who turned 33 last month, signed a one-year contract with Millwall in June after joining from Ipswich, following the Tractor Boys’ relegation from the Premier League.

He was making his ninth Championship start for the Lions.

Play was halted for five minutes while Luongo received treatment on the pitch.

He was then stretchered off, with all four stands applauding the former Hoops star as he left the field.

Millwall led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Femi Azeez and Mihailo Ivanovic.

Both goals came in a dominant first-half display that saw Millwall take full control of the game.

Millwall are desperate for promotion this season and currently sit third in the Championship table.

After 10 games, they’re just four points behind league leaders Middlesbrough.

With a solid squad and consistent performances, the Lions are enjoying a promising campaign.

The loss of Luongo, who has been a mainstay in the team this season, will be a big blow.

However, Millwall have already shown they have the depth to cope with key injuries.

Fans will now wait anxiously for a full diagnosis, but the early signs are worrying for Luongo and the club.
