MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ruben Amorim has laughed off comparisons between goalkeeper Senne Lammens and Peter Schmeichel.
Lammens kept a clean sheet on his debut in the 2-0 win against Sunderland two weeks ago and was treated to a rendition of “Are you Schmeichel in disguise?” from United supporters.
United bought Lammens, 23, for £18.2million from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day but the Belgian had to wait four weeks to make his bow.
The goalie is set to keep his place for United’s fixture against Liverpool on Sunday, having been an unused substitute on international duty with Belgium.
However, Amorim stressed it was not entirely impossible for Lammens to drop back down to the bench at a ground where United have not won since January 2016.
“Nothing is impossible,” he said. “You have to prove during the week. But of course he did a great job. It is possible that he is going to start the game.

“The first impression in this club is really important. To maintain the level is even more important. It is really difficult.
“He is not Schmeichel yet! He is a young guy with talent. He shows a lot of composure. And the fans like it.
“But again, we need to prove. That is in the past. We need to prove in the next game.”
United will assess Noussair Mazraoui before deciding whether he is included in the matchday squad this weekend.
Mazraoui has been sidelined for four weeks with a knock and was not involved in the team training session on Thursday.
Amorim will consider recalling Manuel Ugarte after Casemiro travelled to South Korea and Japan on international duty with Brazil.
Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, Amad and Bruno Fernandes all sat out Thursday’s session as Amorim manages players’ workloads.
Long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez is the only player Amorim ruled out for the Anfield clash.
Martinez has been out for eight months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
“Licha is near, but he’s almost returning to the training with the team,” he revealed.
“Mazraoui: I don’t know.
“The rest of the guys, the national team (participants), they are ready. But if you saw the games, some players play in Japan. So we need to be careful to give more time.
