Lamont Roach revealed that he chose not to go to arbitration against Gervonta Davis for his decision not to take the contractually committed rematch on August 16. Roach says PBC promoter Al Haymon and others who “make things right” on Tank’s behalf.
$40 Million Changes Everything
Instead of taking the rematch with Roach, the Baltimore native Gervonta chose to fight the popular Jake Paul in an exhibition match on November 14. Davis will reportedly earn an estimated $40 million for the Paul fight, which explains why he would pursue this opportunity.
Roach is rumored to have been paid a step aside instead of the rematch to allow the lucrative Paul vs. Davis exhibition to proceed on Netflix on November 14th.
Lamont (25-1-2, 10 KOs) will be challenging WBC interim light welterweight champion Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz (28-3-1, 19 KOs) on December 6, 2025, on PBC on Prime Video PPV at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
That might be as it gets for Roach, as there’s no guarantee that Tank Davis will ever fight him again. He appears to have one foot out the door into retirement, and he may choose to walk away after all the gold bullion he hauls in for his exhibition match against Jake Paul
Bitter but Paid
“I feel disrespected on the business aspect because you don’t do business like that,” said Roach to Mike Coppinger on X about Gervonta Davis choosing to fight Jake Paul rather than going ahead with their August 16 rematch.
As you can tell, Roach is still bitter about not getting the rematch with Gervonta. He needs to move on already. It happened, and it’s over, and he’s torturing himself whining about it 24/7. It just makes him come across like he’s needy. If he wants to be seen as a star, this kind of stuff shouldn’t bother him. Fans are getting tired of hearing about it.

“I think you’re playing with the sport, and I think that’s a little weird. No, we aren’t going to go to arbitration because I’m very well taken care of,” said Roach. “I want to say thank you to Al Haymon, PBC, and everyone who made things right on his [Tank Davis] behalf.
“Even though he messed up on his behalf, they made things right on my end,” said Roach.
