Lamont Roach used a cryptic message on X to remind his users that his earlier prediction about getting a world title shot at 140 is coming true, after being left high and dry by Gervonta Davis.
Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is getting an opportunity to challenge Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) for his WBC interim light welterweight title on December 6th on Amazon on Prime Video PPV. The event will be staged at the Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, Texas.
Lessons From Rolly’s Beating
Lamont, 30, is upbeat right now, but he may be crying crocodile tears if Cruz beats him the way he did Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on March 30, 2024. He took apart Rolly, beating the living daylights out of him in an eight-round knockout. If Roach loses this fight, it’s back to square one for him. He’d be returning to 135 coming off a loss and wouldn’t be in an ideal position to fight for another world title.
Roach’s Prophecy Comes True
Just remember the shit I told you…. It’s coming true

If Roach bags the WBC interim strap from ‘Pitbull,’ he’ll have the option to fight the winner of the November 22nd fight between WBC 140-lb champion Subriel Matias and Dalton Smith or move back down to 135 to challenge Shakur Stevenson for his WBC title. Stevenson has already said he’ll face him after he fights Teofimo Lopez in early 2026 for his WBC 140-lb strap.
Apart from a questionable 12-round split decision defeat against ‘The Mexican Loma’ Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela last year in May, ‘Pitbull’ has looked impressive, winning his last two fights against Angel Fierrero and Omar Salcido, two sluggers. If Cruz shows the same form he did against Rolly, it’s going to be a long night for Roach.
Roach is likely to try to outbox Cruz the way ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela did, because he doesn’t have the punching power or the inside game to match him. He has that Shakur-esque three-foot step back that he uses to escape pressure. Still, Roach prefers to come forward behind a high guard, throwing arm punches with his amateur, point-scoring style.
