SIMON GRAYSON has been axed by Hartlepool United after a torrid run of results.
The 55-year-old, who played in the Premier League with Aston Villa and Leicester City, only took the job in June.
But a dismal streak of one win in the last 11 matches has forced the hand of Hartlepool chiefs.
A club statement read: “Hartlepool United Football Club has today parted company with manager Simon Grayson.
“Following discussions yesterday evening and a board meeting this morning, it became clear that expectations with performances and results have not been met.
“Obtaining one win in the last 11 games falls short of the required standard; therefore, the Board of Directors have collectively made the extremely difficult decision to relieve Simon of his duties.
“The Board wishes to thank Simon for his efforts and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.
“Nicky Featherstone, aided by Elliott Dickman and Adam Smith, will take control of the team for the interim period, starting with Tuesday night’s FA Cup Replay at home to Gainsborough Trinity.”
Grayson leaves with Hartlepool 12th in the National League table.
They won four of his 14 league games in charge but only netted 13 goals during that time.
Results and performances tailed off dramatically after a blistering start which saw them pick up 10 points in four matches.
And a 1-1 draw with Gainsborough Trinity in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round proved to be Grayson’s last stand.
This was the Yorkshireman’s ninth different managerial post with an English club.
Spells with the likes of Leeds, Preston and Sunderland preceded stints in India and Nepal before Grayson returned to England with Hartlepool.
