Gareth Southgate lands new role almost 15 months after resigning as England manager amid Man Utd rumours

GARETH SOUTHGATE found a new role in which to share his footballing insights earlier this week.

The former England boss joined several footballing icons to give his expertise at the 11th Aspire Academy Global Summit in the US.

The annual event is intended to bring minds from across the world of football to share their insights in all facets of the game.

This year’s event, hosted in Philadelphia, wrapped up on Thursday after hearing from some of the best known names in the sport.

Southgate was joined by former Champions League-winning manager Rafa Benitez, as well as legendary defender Alessandro Nesta, among others.

He told the summit: “The most important thing for developing football is developing coaches.

“We are all constantly learning. Bringing people together to share experiences and ideas helps us all grow, especially as the game continues to evolve.”

It is not the first new role that the 55-year-old has picked up since stepping down as England boss in July last year.

SunSport reported in late August that he was set to host a new BBC podcast-style series based around him interviewing successful public figures.

While his success is blooming away from the pitch, his future in football is less certain.

He has been linked with the management role at Manchester United of late, with Portuguese boss Ruben Amorim continuing to struggle to find form at Old Trafford.

Southgate is reportedly unsure about the project and would demand a period of four years to develop his project without fear of getting sacked prematurely.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe says Ruben Amorim could get up to two more YEARS to prove himself at Man Utd

But the two-time Euros runner-up may be waiting a long time for the opportunity, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently coming out to place his support behind the current Red Devils boss.
