Football president slapped with 15-game ban for vicious assault on match official in World Cup qualifier

SUDAN Football Association president Yasser Nasreddin Hamza Al-Samani has been hit with a 15-game ban for assaulting a match official.

The incident took place during a World Cup qualifier between Togo and Sudan last month.

Sudan had suffered a 1-0 defeat in Lome, all-but ending their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 tournament.

At full-time, Al-Samani was left furious and attacked a match official.

Assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu also got involved.

As a result, both have been penalised by FIFA and handed bans.

Al-Samani will miss 15 games for his part in the incident.

Meanwhile, Osei-Fosu will serve a three-game ban for “unsporting behaviour towards a match official,” FIFA has announced.

Both were also fined roughly £4,672 (CHF5,000) in addition.

Sudan currently sit third in Group B of CAF World Cup qualifying with 12 points from eight games.

Meanwhile, Togo sit fourth with seven points.

Senegal lead the group with 18 points from eight games, with DR Congo just behind.
