Phillies OF Harrison Bader out of lineup for NLDS Game 2 vs. Dodgers after sustaining groin injury

Phillies OF Harrison Bader out of lineup for NLDS Game 2 vs. Dodgers after sustaining groin injury

Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Harrison Bader is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the NLDS on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers after he suffered a groin injury in Game 1.

The Phillies announced their Game 2 lineup earlier Monday. Left fielder Brandon Marsh will take Bader’s place in center field. Backup Otto Kemp will play left field and take Bader’s place in the lineup.

Bader appeared to sustain the injury while running the bases in the fifth inning of Saturday’s 5-3 loss to the Dodgers.

He remained in the game and played in the field through the seventh inning. But Nick Castellanos took his place in the lineup in the bottom of the frame.

Per manager Rob Thomson, imaging did not reveal a tear or a major strain, and there’s a chance that Bader could be available to pinch hit Monday. But the injury has limited his ability to play in the outfield.

“He’s going to test it out, but the only thing that is hindering Bader right now is just being able to run 100%,” Thomson said, per the Associated Press. “We think he can hit and run at 75, 80%. So it really affects his defense more than anything.”

Bader, 31, joined the Phillies from the Minnesota Twins in a trade-deadline deal. He slashed .305/.361/.463 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 50 games down the stretch with the Phillies. A former Gold Glove winner, he has been a valuable addition to Philadelphia’s defense.

The Phillies face a 1-0 deficit against the Dodgers in the best-of-five series and will look to even the series Monday before it shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Wednesday.
