Brother of 30-cap former England star and Premier League legend is EFL referee who took charge of Man City clash

THE brother of a Premier League icon has established himself as a respected EFL referee.

Dale Baines recently officiated the U21s Football League Trophy match between Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

And he is regularly the man in the middle on Saturday afternoons.

The referee has taken charge of some National League fixtures this term.

He also had experience officiating in League One and League Two last season.

His brother is a familiar face in English football, having been capped 30 times by the national team.

Leighton Baines also has 420 Premier League appearances under his belt.

He established himself as a legend at Everton during his 13-year spell.

The former left-back called time on his playing career in 2020 and turned to coaching.

He was named interim head coach of Everton following the departure of Sean Dyche in January.

Baines is now the assistant manager of the Toffees under David Moyes, his former boss.

Everton currently sit eighth in the Premier League table with 11 points from seven games.

They beat Crystal Palace on Sunday when Jack Grealish was awarded man of the match – a decision he didn’t agree with.
