Man Utd legend Steve Bruce SACKED by Blackpool 11 games into season with club second from bottom

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Steve Bruce has been sacked as Blackpool manager.

The trigger was pulled following a dismal 2-0 home defeat to newly-promoted AFC Wimbledon.

Bruce leaves the Seasiders second-bottom of League One.

A club statement read: “Blackpool Football Club can announce the departure of Head Coach Steve Bruce, Assistant Head Coach Steve Agnew and First-Team Coach Stephen Clemence.

“The club would like to thank them for their efforts, and wishes them the very best for the future.

“Stephen Dobbie and Steve Banks will take charge of first-team matters until a permanent appointment is confirmed.”

Blackpool have won just two of their 11 games played so far in League One and are just one point above bottom-placed Peterborough.

Many fans predicted the AFC Wimbledon game to be win-or-bust – and so it proved.

Two goals from Danilo Orsi spelt the end for the 64-year-old Geordie.

Bruce has managed over 1,000 games and replaced Neil Critchley at Bloomfield Road in September 2024.

The Tangerines were one of the favourites for promotion at the start of the season after finishing ninth last campaign.

But a rotten start has put paid to the ex-Newcastle gaffer’s time on the seaside.

‘I don’t do tactics’ – Former Newcastle star claims he had conversation with Steve Bruce that left him ‘in shock’

Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire after losing to AFC Wimbledon, Bruce said: “I can try and make as many excuses as I want but it’s not in my nature to do it.

“Today we were nowhere near what’s required of what we need to be and for that I need to take responsibility.”
