Ruben Amorim explains decision to drop Altay Bayindir as he gives Senne Lammens Man Utd debut vs Sunderland

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ruben Amorim dropped goalkeeper Altay Bayindir for the crunch Premier League clash with Sunderland at Old Trafford.

Amorim, 40, opted to hand summer signing Senne Lammens his Man Utd debut following a series of disappointing performances between the sticks by Bayindir, 27.

The Portuguese tactician explained he decided to start the ex-Royal Antwerp star as part of a rotation tactic.

Amorim told the BBC: “It’s rotation. Everybody has to be ready to play.

“We need to win this game, every opponent is different so we try to find the best characteristics to win every match.”

Bayindir started the season as Man Utd’s No1 after Andre Onana fell out of favour and later moved to Trabzonspor on loan.

United moved quickly on deadline day last month to secure Lammens in an £18.5million deal with Antwerp.

The Turkey international has struggled between the sticks for the Red Devils and it was expected that the Belgian would soon get his opportunity in goal.

Bayindir’s omission isn’t the only surprise in Amorim’s starting line-up against Sunderland.

Matheus Cunha also starts on the bench for the Red Devils in this crunch Premier League clash.

The Portuguese tactician opted to start Mason Mount ahead of Cunha, 26.

Mount was placed next to Bryan Mbeumo, who are playing behind centre-forward Benjamin Sesko in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

This comes after Amorim admitted his position as Man Utd boss will become “impossible” unless he starts winning soon.

SunSport understands Amorim still has the board’s backing and no replacement is lined up.

But club chiefs are monitoring potential successors for the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss, who has won just nine league games in his 11-month tenure.
