The End Is Near” — Mora Says Canelo Alvarez Must Accept His Decline After Crawford Loss

The End Is Near” — Mora Says Canelo Alvarez Must Accept His Decline After Crawford Loss

Sergio Mora says Canelo Alvarez’s loss to Terence Crawford is a sign his body is sending him a message that he needs to retire.

The commentator Mora states that Canelo (63-3-2, 39 KOs) has accomplished a great deal in his 20-year career and is close to amassing a $1 billion fortune. He shouldn’t feel ashamed.

“The End is Near”

“It means the end is near for a great champion and a great career like Canelo Alvarez. Time has caught up to him. His body is telling him his time is near,” said Sergio Mora to DAZN, talking about Canelo Alvarez nearing retirement after losing to Terence Crawford last month on September 13.

Opposition Masked the Decline

I don’t know if ‘The Latin Snake’ Mora has been keeping score, but Canelo has been fading for years since 2022. He’s been able to cover it up by disguising his decline through fighting soft opposition exclusively.

Even Crawford was a gimme, safety-first old guy that would be out of his depths if he fought the top five contenders at 168.

Billionaire Legacy Secured

“He’s almost a billionaire and set for life, and his kids are set for life,” said Mora.

Canelo has been rich for years, but his wealth has gone through the roof since signing a reported four-fight contract with Turki Alalshikh for an estimated $400 million.

Turki’s Golden Contract

Before Canelo signed his lucrative deal with DAZN, his net worth was estimated to be between $250 million and $300 million. So, when or if Alvarez completes his contract with Turki, he could be worth as much as $700 million.

Turki has already said that he wants to keep working with Canelo after his contract ends, which means he could easily pump his net worth up to one billion as long as he’s selective in who he faces.

Thus far, Alvarez has fought two fights against William Scull and Terence Crawford. The last two will come in 2026, provided he’s healthy enough to fight and doesn’t retire out of shame after his last performance against Crawford.

No Risk, Big Payday

It’s not just Canelo who is making money hand over fist. Crawford is pulling in millions as well, fighting on Turki Alalshikh’s cards, and taking no risks by fighting any of the prime elite-level fighters that would put the spotlight on his true ability.

Terence would have been found out a long time ago, just like Canelo, if he’d been fighting the apex fighters at 154, 160, and 168. He and Canelo are one of a kind. I predict that we’ll see Crawford take the same safe, soft choices that the Mexican star Alvarez has to keep him winning until the end of his career. He won’t be thrown to the wolves in his remaining fights on his contract with Turki.
