Sebastian Fundora vs. Keith Thurman PPV at .99 Sparks Outrage as Critics Call Fight a Mismatch at MGM Grand

The Sebastian Fundora vs. Keith Thurman event is priced at $74.99 on PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view for their fight on October 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

PPV Price Angers Boxing Fans

The reaction from fans today regarding the PPV price has been negative, with many stating they won’t bother ordering it.

Many of the fans have become spoiled by the low costs for the Riyadh Season events, which have frequently had loaded cards. Thruman (31-1, 23 KOs) hasn’t done anything with his career to show that he deserves a world title shot, having fought just once in the last three years.

The fight is seen as a mismatch in favor of WBC junior middleweight champion Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs).

PPV Undercard Breakdown

  • Sebastian Fundora vs. Keith Thurman
  • O’Shaquie Foster vs. Stephen Fulton Jr.
  • Jesus Ramos Jr. vs. Shane Mosley Jr.
  • Isaac Lucero vs. Roberto Valenzuela Jr.

Movement Strategy Doomed to Fail

“Thurman moves a lot. Fundora with his reach and his height, it can make him move more than he wants to move,” said coach Stephen Edwards to MillCity Boxing. “I think with Fundora’s jab and his reach, it might throw him off a little bit. I’m more comfortable picking Fundora to win than I am Thurman to win.”

The combination of essentially eight years of inactivity and creeping age could be a hindrance to Thurman’s chances of defeating the much younger 27-year-old Fundora. Thurman turns 37 next month on November 23, 2025, and looks considerably older than that.

If Thurman is going to use constant movement to neutralize Fundora’s offense, he’s not going to be able to keep it up for the complete 12 rounds without gassing out. Even in Keith’s last fight against the lower-level fighter Brock Jarvis on March 12, 2025, you could see that he was getting tired after just two rounds. He had to attack Jarvis in the third round because he looked like couldn’t keep up the movement.

“Did he really earn a fight against Sebastian Fundora? Has he done [anything]? He’s done one fight [Brock Jarvis], and he’s getting this opportunity to get in the ring with Sebastian Fundora,” said Shawn Porter on his YouTube channel, talking about Thurman not having earned a title shot against Fundora.

Title Shot Gift, Not Earned

Of course, Thurman didn’t earn the title shot against Fundora. It was given to him by his management, who also works with Sebastian. So, it’s an in-house fight that Thurman would have never gotten if he had to earn it by fighting his way through the ranks.

His chances of beating contenders like Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. are slim. What would really wreck Thurman’s chances of fighting for a world title is his habit of taking long three-year breaks. If he disappeared for three years again, he’d never get a chance to fight for a world title if he had to earn it.
