CHRIS WILDER was sent off at half-time after booting a ball at one of his own fans.
The Sheffield United boss saw his team 1-0 ahead at the break against Southampton thanks to a Tyrese Campbell goal, but Wilder was left frustrated at the end of the half.
And the 58-year-old could not resist the chance to smash a ball as it rolled towards him while he walked off the pitch.
The trajectory of the blast put it into the crowd behind the tunnel.
Wilder immediately ran over to apologise to the fan who had been hit by the missile unleashed by the Blades boss.
However, as he returned pitchside leaving the fan with a smile on their face, Wilder was then sent off by unimpressed referee Adam Herczeg.
Wilder appeared to be stunned at the decision initially, but did not protest it before storming down the tunnel.
Reacting on social media, fans were stunned at the stunning sequence of events.
One said: “Shouldn’t be sent off if he apologised bit ridiculous that.”
A second said: “A bit pedantic from the ref. But what is Wilder even doing there like? Absolutely ridiculous.”
Another said: “The guy seriously needs to grow up.”
A fourth added: “Utter woke nonsense.”
If Wilder was angry before the break, then he would have been livid at his team in the 15 minutes afterwards.
Will Still’s visiting Saints side equalised in the 51st minute through Ross Stewart, before Stewart added a second seven minutes later to give them the lead at Bramall Lane.
