Union SG vs Newcastle preview
Newcastle continue to suffer heartbreak at the start of this season and it’s becoming a worrying trend.
Eddie Howe’s men have only conceded five league goals so far but those five came in just two games – a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool and Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Given those two are title challengers it might not seem the end of the world but both games were lost deep into injury time and leaves the Toon on six points and down in 15th place.
Added to that the narrow 2-1 defeat to Barcelona on the opening game of this competition, it just hasn’t quite got going for the Magpies so far.
Now they head to Union SG, who are runaway leaders at the top of the Belgian Pro League, sitting six points clear after nine league games.
Of those nine, they have seven wins and two draws to their name for a solid, unbeaten opening.
They’ve also taken that form into Europe with a very impressive 3-1 win at PSV on matchday one.
With Tony Bloom pulling the strings, they’ve transformed into a powerhouse of Belgian football and don’t appear to be stopping there.

There are easier games out there that Newcastle could have had for their second Champions League outing.
But irrespective of the start Union SG have had this season, Newcastle’s squad should be too good for them.
They’ll need far more of a cutting edge up front though but the midfield backing them up can be pivotal to nick the three points.
