FOOTIE fans identified some new wingers — after being encouraged to go plane-spotting as half-time entertainment.

Windsor & Eton’s ground is on the flight path to and from nearby Heathrow.

And a guide in the non-league side’s match-day programme suggested supporters look for five flights during the interval of their match with Reading City.

Rather than queue for a pie and a pint, it tells fans: “If you are looking for something to occupy the half-time break, then how about looking up!”

It goes on: “Dependent on the wind direction, there will be planes overhead landing or taking off. See if you can spot these, which are due between 3.45pm and 4pm today.”

The wacky Up In The Air guide listed three arrivals — Japan Air’s flight from Tokyo, a British Airways service from Barcelona and a Biman Bangladesh jet from Dhaka.

There were also two departures — a Virgin flight for Jamaica and an Aer Lingus plane going to Dublin.

One fan at Windsor’s Stag Meadow stadium said: “A lot of supporters were getting involved.

“I heard a guy ask, ‘What plane’s that, then?’ and his mate replied, ‘Oh, that’s an A380’. It was good fun. It wasn’t the most riveting game of football.”

The plane-spotting was probably the highlight of the day — Saturday’s Combined Counties Premier clash ended 0-0.
