“I’m at peace with myself”

“I’m at peace with myself”

Marc Marquez says he is now at peace with himself after completing a sensational comeback from the injuries he sustained five years ago to clinch the 2025 MotoGP title.

Marquez earned a place in the history books by winning six titles in his first seven seasons in the premier class between 2013 and 2019.

But his career nearly ended abruptly when he suffered a severe arm injury in a crash at the 2020 season opener in Jerez.

After undergoing surgery, Marquez attempted to make a comeback just days later at the Andalucian Grand Prix, only for the move to backfire as he continued to suffer from pain caused by the accident.

He ended up sitting out the race and the remainder of the 2020 season, and it wasn’t until he had undergone a fourth operation in 2022 that he was able to overcome the limitations in his arm.

While he had already won another three grands prix with Honda by that point, he had to break his contract with the Japanese manufacturer in order to fulfill his dream of winning a world championship again.

After a year on a satellite bike at Gresini, he finally landed a seat at the factory Ducati seat and has been in dominant form since, with a second-place finish in the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday allowing him to wrap up the title with five rounds to spare.

In his first interview since the triumph, Marquez was lost for words, but admitted he can finally move on from what was the lowest point of his career.

Asked if he can sum up his emotions, the now nine-time world champion said: “No, it’s impossible even to speak.

“Everytime, when I…I don’t want to remember what I pass away [sic]. Just want to enjoy the moment.

“It’s true that it was difficult, it was super difficult. But now I’m in peace of myself, how it is a part of me [sic]. It’s okay.

“So I did a mistake for my career to come back too early. I fight, fight and I won again. I’m on peace.”

Speaking further with Spanish broadcaster DAZN, he added:  “The first thing that comes out of me is that I am at peace with myself. There are many people who have helped me to get out of here, it’s just impossible.

“You make the decisions with what you feel, but I don’t want to remember. I want to live in the moment, I’m at peace, it’s a moment of peace and it’s the most important thing. I don’t want to say names of gratitude because it wouldn’t end, but they know who they are.

“The most complicated thing is… Human beings have a very good capacity to forget about the bad and think about the good, at least the optimists.

“I always saw a light at the end of the tunnel, they have helped me to see more of the light. I have followed it and I have answered my questions thinking about myself, being selfish because my people asked me to.

“I entered a loop in the Jerez fall, I made it worse by racing early, a decision that is my fault, I can advise you. That’s why I say that it was Marc against Marc and now I’m at peace.”
