FA Cup tie abandoned as goalkeeper rushed to hospital after horror injury

AN FA Cup tie was abandoned after a goalkeeper was rushed to hospital.

Quorn goalkeeper Tom Allsopp suffered a horror injury in the closing stages of the match against Enfield Town.

Allsopp, 22, collided with one of his own defenders as Enfield netted their fifth goal of the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round match.

It was reported that he had lost consciousness after the coming together.

There was a lengthy delay in the match as the stopper was attended to by physios from both teams.

After 29 minutes, the decision was made to abandon the match with Enfield leading the game 5-1.

Enfield confirmed the abandonment of the match on social media.

A statement read: “Our game against Quorn has been abandoned at 5-1 in the 82nd minute due to injury to Quorn Keeper Tom Allsopp.

“This afternoon’s outcome is TBC by the FA.

“Our thoughts are with Tom, wishing him a speedy recovery.”

Allsopp was rushed to hospital and underwent scans.

He was able to post on social media a few hours after the incident to confirm that he was “okay”.

He wrote: “Just want to let everyone know I am okay just awaiting some scan results.

“Just want to thank the Enfield Town staff for looking after me so well, feeling extremely grateful.”

Fans were grateful for the update as they flooded Allsopp’s post with get-well-soon messages.

One posted: “Made my evening reading that you’re ok. Get well soon.”

A second wrote: “Chuffed to bits you’re okay mate!”

A third commented: “Great news! Awful to see happen.”

A fourth said: “That’s great news to hear Tom. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.”

Another added: “Great to hear that Tom mate. Speedy recovery! You’ll be back between the stick soon.”

Rules stipulate that the match could be replayed despite the 5-1 scoreline.

This is decided by the FA – but they could also allow the score to stand at the time of the abandonment.
