Usyk’s Engagement With Jake Paul Signals a Shift in Boxing’s Power Dynamics Toward a New Money Man

Usyk’s Engagement With Jake Paul Signals a Shift in Boxing’s Power Dynamics Toward a New Money Man

Oleksandr Usyk’s response to Jake Paul’s “five-year plan” today on social media indicated that he takes him seriously as the new money man in boxing. Yesterday, Jake revealed his five-year plan of becoming a world champion, a billionaire, fighting on the moon, winning an Oscar, and defeating Usyk.

Why Usyk Didn’t Ignore Paul

Oleksandr responded to Jake Paul’s post, saying he doesn’t take “fifth place, only first,” and let him know that he would be interested in fighting him in the “cage’ after he retires. With the money that Usyk can make fighting Jake in a boxing match, I believe he’s going to change his mind about only fighting him in a cage.

Usyk would have ignored Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) if he viewed him as a joke, but he clearly understands that he’s for real. His dreams of fighting on the moon, becoming a billionaire, and fighting Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) are possible with the way he’s moving.

Boxing’s New Money Man

As popular as ‘The Big Four’ are, Usyk, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Canelo, none of them bring in the viewers that Jake Paul does with his crossover appeal. He’s not dependent on the limited boxing fans to bring in viewers for his events. He has followers who are drawn to him as a person, with millions subscribing to his accounts on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and X.

Record-Breaking Viewership on Netflix

The YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul is expected to make $50 million for his November 14th exhibition match against Gervonta Davis on Netflix. Last year, Jake reportedly earned $40 million fighting Mike Tyson on November 15, 2024. That fight pulled in 108 million viewers on Netflix, setting a record for sports as the most-streamed sporting event of all time.

The Paul-Tank Davis may not bring in as many viewers as Jake’s clash against ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson on Netflix, but it could outdo the 41.4 million global viewers of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford superfight on September 13, 2025.

Beyond that, Jake has a mega-fight in the pipeline against former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in January 2026.

“I’m Not Here for 5th Place”

“Good plan, Jake Paul, but I’m not here for 5th place — only first. Soon, I’ll close the book on boxing, and after that, I’ll be waiting for you in the cage,” said Oleksandr Usyk on social media, reacting to Jake Paul listing him in his five-year plan.

“Become a world champ, become a billionaire, have three kids, and get married to Jutta [Leerdam]. Beat [Oleksandr] Usyk, win an Oscar, fight on the moon, and start a presidential campaign,” said Jake Paul on X, listing his five-year plan.
