RUBEN AMORIM fired a warning to his players after Manchester United beat Chelsea.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro helped the Red Devils to a 2-1 win.
They took advantage of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s early dismissal and went 2-0 up.
But Casemiro also saw red on the stroke of half-time and Trevoh Chalobah pulled one back with ten minutes to go to set up a nervy ending.
Amorim was delighted to pick up a win amid mounting pressure on him and his squad, but he is aware it means little if they cannot back it up.
He warned his squad after the match, saying: “Now it’s time to create a bit of momentum.
“We deserved the win, it’s just one win. And we need to think about the next one.
“It’s really important because I understand the environment around the team and the coach. This game was really important for that.
“It’s Manchester United winning a game at home, it’s just that. Three points. It’s trying to create the momentum.
“We cannot forget that we suffer a lot when we are not in the top, in our maximum in all aspects. We can lose against Grimsby, we can win against any team. We need to take that for the next week.
“Of course it’s really good to win, you can feel the environment in the dressing room.
“But forget that feeling. I prefer the other feeling now, because it will bring us the urgency to win again. That is really important again.”
Amorim has come under fire in recent days for his rigid belief in his 3-4-3 system.
He defiantly told the press this week that if his bosses wanted the system change they would have to fire him first.
Amorim also joked this week that his talks with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe were over a new contract.
Asked if the win helps to silence the critics, Amorim responded: “It’s not about that.
“People don’t have too many good things to say about our team and our results. I understand that, I’m just joking around all the time.
“I have nothing to say to the critics, they are right most of the time. But we won, and that’s a good thing for us.”
