British EFL manager SACKED with club bottom of entire Football League and he even predicted it after home thrashing

CHELTENHAM TOWN have SACKED Michael Flynn with the club rooted to the bottom of the entire Football League.

Following the latest defeat, 3-0 at home to the division’s new-boys Oldham, The Robins board have pulled the plug.

A club statement read: “Cheltenham Town can confirm that we have parted company with manager Michael Flynn following today’s defeat to Oldham Athletic.

“Everyone at the Club would like to thank Michael for his efforts and contributions during his time with us and we wish him all the best in the future.”

Flynn was appointed as Cheltenham boss in May last year.

He guided them to a 15th-placed position in his first season in charge.

They have won only one of their opening nine League Two games this campaign, currently bottom on four points.

Incredibly, Flynn even predicted the axe would fall.

Speaking after the disasterclass against Oldham, Flynn told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: “Performances like that get you the sack, I can’t be any more honest than that.

“I can take responsibility for certain things, but I’m not just going to blame myself for that performance today from that group of players.”

Flynn’s departure comes only days after the club’s director of football Gary Johnson, 69, quit.

He was in the role for 16 months.

And Flynn spoke out about his “surprise” at Johnson upping sticks.

He told local radio: “It comes as a bit of a surprise to be honest.

“I wish Gary all the best, I’ve spoken to him, thanked him for bringing me here and I’m sure he’ll be looking for the next challenge or maybe taking a big step back and relaxing and enjoying his senior years.”
