Boxing Results: Gabriela Fundora Batters Alexis Kubicki in Seventh-Round TKO Victory

Gabriela ‘Sweet Poison’ Fundora (17-0, 9 KOs) successfully defended her IBF, WBC, and WBO female flyweight titles with a seventh-round TKO over Alexis Kubicki (13-2, 2 KOs) on Saturday night at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

Going into the seventh, the referee told Kubicki, 22, that she was taking too much punishment. He then had her checked out by the ringside doctor to see if she was okay. Her right eye was bruised, her nose was bleeding, and her face was reddened from all the hard punches that the tall 5’9″ southpaw Fundora had been hitting her with.

Flurry Ends the Fight

Once the seventh started, Fundora teed off on Kubicki, hitting her with combinations and hard right hooks. Fundora then backed up Kubicki and unloaded a flurry of rapid-fire combinations that caught her cleanly, forcing the referee to step in and halt the contest. The time of the stoppage was at 43 seconds of the seventh round.

The fight could have been halted two rounds earlier, as Kubicki was looking at her trainer while getting hammered by Fundora. It was clear that she wanted out of the fight, and who could blame her? It was totally one-sided by that point.

Kubicki initially was trying to keep the action close to prevent Fundora from getting leverage on her shots, but it wasn’t effective. She wasn’t getting any power on her shots and was mostly just wrestling. Surprisingly, Fundora was the better inside fighter and was landing some nice shots occasionally.

Fundora Felt Underestimated

“I felt good. I’m glad I got a knockout once again. I expected her to come 1000%, but I did too. I felt it the very first punch I threw,” said Fundora after the fight. “I felt that she underestimated me. Of course, they’re checking her out. Obviously, something is wrong with me. I just need to finish her off. I have to talk to my team to see what the next move is for me.
