Championship clash leaves fans screaming at their TVs as debutant scores brutal goal after rival goes down injured

FANS were left screaming at their TVs after a player scored on his debut following an injury to a rival.

The bizarre incident occurred during Portsmouth’s 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

The visitors soared into a 12th minute lead at Fratton Park through Barry Bannan.

But the cash-stricken club then doubled the score in the 50th minute.

Debutant George Brown marked his first appearance with a goal.

However, it came in controversial fashion.

Pompey defender Conor Shaughnessy was making a dash to intercept a loose ball when he pulled up injured.

The ace appeared to be in pain as he hobbled before dropping to the ground.

But his misery resulted in joy for Brown.

The Wednesday forward picked up the ball unmarked before dashing towards the Portsmouth goal.

As players from both sides watched on confused, appearing to wait for the referee to blow his whistle, Brown continued forward before smashing the ball home for a goal.

But as the ref never blew to stop play, the strike counted.

It saw Brown wheel away in delight as Wednesday fans celebrated wildly.

However, some fans were left furious with Brown’s behaviour.

One said: “Screaming at my TV.”

Another declared: “No room for sportsmanship.”

Yet others saw it a different way.

One said: “George Brown is a talent.”

Another added: “Absolutely right thing to do.”
