LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe is being investigated by the FA for allegedly using discriminatory language towards a team-mate.
The incident took place during a pre-season training camp following the 25-year-old’s move to Merseyside from SC Freiburg.
Borggrafe made the alleged comment while the Reds were preparing for a squad photograph, it’s understood.
The words used by the goalkeeper have not been disclosed publicly.
It is also unknown who they were about or directed to.
Club officials promptly looked into the matter when it happened, with the FA now involved.
Borggrafe is understood to have denied the allegations.
A statement from Liverpool read: “LFC is aware of an alleged use of discriminatory language by an LFC Women’s player.
“The club has followed its protocols to the fullest extent and the alleged incident has been reported to the FA, which is conducting an investigation with our full support.
“We condemn all forms of discrimination; it has no place in football or society. We are unable to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor said on Friday: “The club has made a statement and we’re being really helpful and respectful of the process you have to go through.
“We dealt with it in the appropriate manner. Of course, as a club, it is something we don’t stand for.”
Borggrafe was left out of the Liverpool squad on the opening day of the season.
Following the 4-1 loss to Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield, Taylor explained that her absence was due to an “internal issue”.
The German goalkeeper returned to the bench for the following match against Leicester City last weekend.
