It was a white-hot opening from the Magpies in front of a deafening Geordie crowd but the closest they came was through Harvey Barnes.
But the rapid tempo from the first 20 minutes was never going to last.
Barcelona grew into it as the half wore on, with Rashford and Raphinha looking the most likely to make something happen, but neither goalie has been made to work properly yet.
Stupid yellow card for Dan Burn right on half time, he’ll have to walk a tightrope now.
