Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis says he plans on making a statement in his debut at 154 against Uisma Lima on October 11, 2025, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The event will be shown on DAZN.
An Easy Mark
Lima (14-1, 10 KOs) was picked out by ‘Boots’ Ennis’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, who wanted a “hungry” fighter to get him ready for the bigger fighters, like Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Xander Zayas. Hearn expects Lima, 32, to be “tough” and capable in this fight, which sounds like code talk for an easy mark.
“Yeah, that fight is there. Our main focus right now is handling business, getting Lima out of the way, and looking good. I want to make a big statement for the 154-lb business. Once I handle business, it doesn’t matter who it is,” said Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to Matchroom Boxing about his upcoming debut at 154 against Uisma Lima next month on October 11.
Lima’s Lack of Credentials
The problem is that Ennis might not receive credit for beating the obscure fighter, Uisma Lima, because he’s not a fighter that many fans have ever heard of before. He’s been off the grid throughout his six-year professional career, fighting these guys:
- Shervantaigh Koopman
- Sukhdeep Singh Bhatti
- Haro Matevosyan
- Araik Marutjan
Those foes are Lima’s last four opponents, and he’s consumed two years fighting them. It’s unbelievable that Uisma would fight these types of opponents from 2023 to 2025 rather than stepping up to world-class to take on some of the top 15-level contenders.
A Win That Means Nothing
“Me being at a new weight class, I feel it was time. But the time is here now. It’s time to show out,” said Ennis.
It would have been better if Ennis’ promoter, Eddie Hearn, had selected a better-known, and arguably more talented, top 15 contender than Lima. What jumps out at fans is when they look at the one guy that Lima was beaten by, Aaron McKenna, on June 16, 2023.
Lima was totally dominated in that fight, losing by a lopsided 10-round unanimous decision by the scores 92-98, 93-98, and 91-100. McKenna isn’t considered one of the talented middleweights, so ‘Boots’ might have fought him rather than Lima.
