Man Utd’s terrible start could be a good omen – despite stats showing Ruben Amorim is WORST boss in Premier League

MANCHESTER UNITED’S terrible start to the season could actually be a good omen.

That is despite stats showing Ruben Amorim is the worst boss in the Premier League.

United were stuffed 3-0 by neighbours Manchester City in Sunday’s derby.

On an emotional day at the Etihad following Ricky Hatton’s sad death, Phil Foden and an Erling Haaland double swept the Red Devils aside.

The defeat followed a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, a 1-1 draw with Fulham and a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Burnley before the international break.

It means United are on just four points from the first four matches – placing them 14th in the table – with a goal difference of -3.

They find themselves already eight points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

However, that return of four points from four matches might, ironically, not be the worst news.

Because, although this is the club’s worst start to the season since 1992-93, Sir Alex Ferguson still managed to lead his side to the inaugural Premier League title by the end of that campaign.

But the numbers from Opta make for grim reading for Amorim, 40.

He took charge of his first United game on November 24 last year, a 1-1 draw with Ipswich.

And since taking over, of the 17 ever-present Premier League clubs excluding those promoted and relegated, his struggling Red Devils are BOTTOM of the table.

Man Utd fans stream out of Etihad early with team being thrashed

They have picked up a pitiful 31 points from 31 games, including just eight wins.

That is the exact same points tally as Tottenham but with a worse goal difference on -13 to -4.

West Ham (34 points), Wolves (36) and Fulham (41) are next on the list.

At the other end of the table covering the last 31 matches, Liverpool unsurprisingly lead the way on 68 points.

Man Utd ratings vs Man City: Mbeumo forces wonder save from Donnarumma but that’s as good as it gets

MANCHESTER UNITED’S miserable start to the season continued after they were brushed aside by neighbours Man City.

Ruben Amorim’s side were unable to come back with a bang after the international break, falling to a 3-0 away defeat.

Phil Foden opened the scoring for City after just 18 minutes with a glancing header that gave Altay Bayindir – keeping his spot despite the arrival on Ssnne Lammens – little chance to stop.

While Erling Haaland did what he does best by bagging a second-half brace to put the hosts out of reach.

United now sit 14th in the table, with City leapfrogging them with their second win of the season.

Here’s how SunSport’s Katherine Walsh rated each Man Utd players performance…

They are followed by Arsenal (64), Chelsea (58), City (54), Newcastle (53) and Crystal Palace (52).

But despite his nightmare run of results with deficiencies all the way across the pitch, Amorim is refusing to budge from his 3-4-3 formation.

He said at the Etihad: “It is not a record we should have at Manchester United.

“I accept that but I am not going to change.

“When I want to change my philosophy I will change but, if not, you have to change the man.

“We will talk about that every game we lose. I have played my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.”
