CHAMPIONSHIP fans were surprised to see former Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskaer pop up at a stadium this week.
The Red Devils legend, 52, was picked up by Sky Sports cameras days after he was sacked by Besiktas.
Solskjaer was axed in a brutal 40-word statement hours after the Turkish side were knocked out of the Conference League in the qualifying round.
He lasted less than eight months in the job after joining in January following a three-year hiatus.
And fans were stunned as he visited Portman Road to take in Ipswich’s 5-0 win over Sheffield United on Friday night.
One said: “Why is he watching the match?”
Another suggested the Man Utd job had taken a toll on the “Baby-faced assassin” – his nickname as a player.
They joked: “Damn! United aged that guy didn’t it?!”
While others suggested he was looking for his next career opportunity.
One added: “Is he there to support his old mate, or is he assessing the members of his next squad? Interesting!”
That is of course referring to Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna – formerly on Solskjaer’s coaching staff at Old Trafford.
While the Ipswich job isn’t likely to be available any time soon, there might soon be a vacancy at Sheffield Utd who are without a point after five games.
However sadly for Solskjaer, it is reported the Blades are considering a sensational U-turn to re-appoint Chris Wilder for a third spell – 87 days after the sacked him.
Solskjaer was handed his P45 at Old Trafford in November 2021 after nearly three years at the helm – months after agonisingly losing the Europa League final on penalties.
And his sacking at Besiktas came in a bizarre week which also saw former Man Utd gaffers Jose Mourinho and Erik ten Hag get the chop within seven days of each other.
