Tyson Fury’s Reluctance: The Public Pressure from Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn Is Gaining Momentum

Eddie Hearn posted today, publicly calling out Tyson Fury to step up and face Anthony Joshua in what he believes is “the biggest fight in boxing.” Matchroom promoter, Hearn, states that Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) is “ready to go” to begin talks.

Hearn states that Joshua is injury-free and motivated to start training camp for his next fight, having been out of the ring for a year.

The Relentless Pressure Campaign

It’s now up to ‘The Gypsy King’ Fury to accept that challenge, but it looks like Hearn and AJ aren’t going to let up with the public pressure. They seem to realize that it’s now or never with that fight.

If they passively wait, hoping Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) will decide on his own one of these days, it may never happen. He’s got the Rockefeller-esque wealth, so he doesn’t need to fight. Hearn and Joshua used peer pressure to lure Tyson into the fight. It could work if they persist in an unrelenting manner.

“AJ has always been a guy who has held his tongue. I think now that he’s coming to the back of his career, he’s like, ‘Why not? I want this fight.’ We’re ready to go. We’re ready to talk about it. Do you want to make the biggest fight in boxing?” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Sky Sports Boxing about Anthony Joshua now pushing Tyson Fury to face him.

The problem is, Inertia has set in with Fury since his second defeat against Oleksandr Usyk on December 7, 2024. He’s still bitter, stewing on his loss, still complaining about the judges not giving him the victory.

From Reigning King to Recluse

Fury, 37, has given up after back-to-back defeats against Usyk in 2024. He went from being the #1 heavyweight in the world to a retired man who has given up on his once successful career. He recently made mention of seeing some “gray” in his beard, using that as one of the reasons for him to stay retired.

Hearn states that he still views Joshua vs. Fury as the “biggest fight” in the sport, despite the years that have passed since the clash was first discussed. Interestingly, it was Fury that first took the lead with the call-outs, urging Joshua to fight him in June 2020 for the “biggest fight in British boxing history.” At that point, Fury was at the top of his game, riding high from his win over Deontay Wilder.

According to Hearn, Joshua, 35, will be taking a tune-up in January or February 2026. He’s unsure when Tyson will take his warm-up fight, but he believes he’ll want one before facing AJ next year.

Hearn states that Joshua’s callout of Fury on Instagram this week was unlike him, but he feels he’s “fired up” and wants to get back in the ring to resume fighting.
