Isak in furious clash with Kosovo star minutes after coming on for first action as he and Gyokeres suffer World Cup blow

ALEXANDER ISAK was caught in a furious clash just minutes after coming on for his first game since signing for Liverpool.

The £130MILLION man was a late substitute for Sweden in their World Cup qualifier against Kosovo.

Isak, 25, was thrown on by manager Jon Dahl Tomasson in order to try and salvage a result in the final 18 minutes.

Goals from Elvis Rexhbecaj and Vedat Muriqi had put Kosovo in a strong position for their first points in qualifying.

Isak did not have the desired impact as he was booked after just nine minutes.

He clashed with Kosovo’s Fidan Aliti and could be seen grabbing the defender’s shirt during the bust-up.

He was unable to find an important goal for his nation as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri.

The result leaves Sweden third in Group B behind both Kosovo and leaders Switzerland.

The striker’s appearance comes after he was an unused substitute in Sweden’s previous match against Slovenia.

Speaking after that game Dahl Tomasson insisted that Isak is lacking match fitness.

He told Viaplay: “He had only done three training sessions with the team.

“He had no pre-season with the team and of course no playing time.

“The risk was probably a bit too great to use him.”

The cameo appearance against Kosovo was his first since going on strike at Newcastle to force through his record move to Anfield.

His first game for the Reds could potentially come at Turf Moor against Burnley on Sunday.

Isak scored 23 goals in the Premier League last term for the Magpies which prompted interest from Arne Slot’s side.

He will have to compete with fellow summer signing Hugo Ekitike for a starting spot in the Liverpool team.

The French forward has had an excellent start to life on Merseyside as he has already scored twice in three Prem outings.
