Bethpage Black: A Brutal Battleground

Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, will host the Ryder Cup for the first time from September 26–28, 2025. The course is infamous for its narrow fairways, thick rough, small greens, and unforgiving bunkers earning it a reputation as one of A. W. Tillinghast’s toughest designs  The Black has hosted majors before most recently the 2019 PGA Championship, won by Brooks Koepka but never a Ryder Cup. The electric New York crowds, described as potentially a “tsunami,” will add to the home-field intensity.

Teams & Leadership

Team Europe

Luke Donald returns as European captain and has maintained continuity, keeping 11 of the 12 players from the successful 2023 team . His six captain’s picks, Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Sepp Straka, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, and Matt Fitzpatrick, are all formidable and bring experience and form. The standout automatic qualifiers include Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Tyrrell Hatton.

Team USA

Keegan Bradley leads the U.S. side solely as captain, foregoing a playing role to focus on leadership. His picks Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Young, and Sam Burns bring a mix of experience and emerging talent. The Americans’ roster includes heavyweights like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, J.J. Spaun, and Russell Henley.

Europe’s Challenge & U.S. Advantage

Europe is bidding for its first Ryder Cup victory on U.S. soil since the “Miracle of Medinah” in 2012; their last U.S. attempt ended in a crushing 19–9 loss at Whistling Straits in 2021. Rory McIlroy, buoyed by his stellar 2025 (including wins at The Masters and the Players Championship), dubbed the European squad “more accomplished” than ever and expressed cautious optimism. Meanwhile, DeChambeau and U.S. players are rallying behind the home-field energy, with calls for a “tsunami” of support.

Betting Odds & Market

Betfair puts USA at 8/11 and Europe 11/8, with a 12/1 draw. This consensus shows a consistent lean toward the U.S., though Europe’s odds remain competitive given their defending champion status.

Another Ryder Cup specials include:

A tournament Hole in One 4/1

Tommy Fleetwood to win 4 points or more 5/1 (Happened in 2021)

Europe to be leading 10-6 after Day 2 13/1 (Happened in 2014 & 2018)

Final Take: Betting Narratives to Watch

  • Home Course Factor: Bethpage Black’s punishing layout may suit the power hitters on the U.S. side, yet also rewards strategic consistency, a possible European edge.

  • Momentum & Form: Europe’s continuity and recent individual form (McIlroy, Rahm, etc.) contrast with the U.S.’s star power and fervent home energy.

  • Tie Edge: A tie results in Europe retaining the Cup, a potential value play at 12/1 to buffer risk.
