Wayne Rooney blown away by dinner David and Victoria Beckham served him and Coleen at their house

WAYNE ROONEY revealed the dinner he was served after being invited over to the Beckham household was not so posh.

The two played together for England and formed a friendship – with their partners Coleen and Victoria part of an infamous WAG collection.

Rooney made his England debut in 2003 at the age of just 17 – while Beckham was playing for Real Madrid.

Around that time, the Manchester United legend and Chelsea great Frank Lampard got an invite for dinner at the Beckham abode.

He said on his BBC podcast: “It was me, Lamps and couple more players.

“We went to his house, me and Coleen, we were only 19 or something. We were like, ‘this is weird, what’s happening here?’

“Had a walk around and he’s showing us round his house and then I open a door and his eldest boy, [Brooklyn] I bumped his head and he started crying I thought, ‘oh Jesus Christ’.

“Opened the door and bumped his head. But yeah that was surreal and we sat there with Becks and Victoria having dinner.”

Rooney was then asked whether the dinner was posh – matching Victoria’s Spice Girls character.

But Rooney responded: “No. We met up with Becks and Victoria, me and Coleen, when he was at Madrid and went for dinner then and we were having kebabs.”

Beckham retired in 2013 at PSG after leaving LA Galaxy the year before – last playing for England in 2009.

Rooney played with the former Three Lions skipper at Euro 2004 and the World Cup in 2006.

Wayne Rooney reveals major Sir Alex Ferguson rule he broke every time he was on England duty

And he said: “He’s obviously a great lad and Victoria’s such a lovely woman and funny. A lot funnier than people would think.”

Rooney made 120 international caps, scoring 53 goals, with Harry Kane only managing more with 107.

The former captain revealed he used to break Sir Alex Ferguson’s rule of playing more than 45 minutes while on national duty.

He said: “You want to be in every squad. I used to love getting called up to England, whether it was a friendly, whether it was a qualifier.

“I used to love going and meeting up with the players, preparing for the games. That’s probably the reason I got 120 caps, because I never used to pull out.

“I always remember Sir Alex Ferguson before we’d go in for some of the games, I’m sure he’d speak to the England manager as well.

“He’d be like: ‘Right, you, no more than 45 minutes. Make sure you come off after 45 minutes or you only play 45 minutes.’

“So, I’d get to England and I’d be like: ‘Boss, I want to play 90 minutes. I want to play the full game, don’t take me off,’ because I used to love playing.

“Some players were different and some players were protecting themselves with injuries as well, especially in the friendly games. But I used to love going.”

Rooney finished his playing career at Derby in 2021 after a season and went into coaching.

He has had spells with Derby, DC United, Birmingham and most recently Plymouth, who sacked him in December.

The 39-year-old is yet to return to management – since joining Match of The Day as a pundit regular.
