CHELSEA star Cole Palmer has driven fans wild on social media with a cheeky comment on Manchester United ace Kobbie Mainoo’s latest social media post.
Mainoo, 20, posted five pictures on Instagram which left a lot open for interpretation.
One showed him sitting with an expression that suggested he was deep in thought.
Two more showed him training by himself and another depicted him knuckling down in the gym alone in a manner that suggested he was really pushing himself.
One intriguing feature of Mainoo’s post was the fifth picture that showed Miles Teller’s character from Whiplash banging drums in despair with his bare fist.
And funnily enough that was a film about a rising star – played by Teller – that can never seem to satisfy his mentor… or coach.
Palmer, 23, was quick to comment on the post, saying “3 my boy”, accompanied by a red love heart emoji – believed by some to mean “Free my boy [from Man Utd]”.
That comment racked up over 10,000 likes in the first six hours of it being up, with some feeling like the Chelsea star thinks his England team-mate should leave United.
Fellow Man Utd stars Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee supported Mainoo on the post.
Both commented GIFs – Yoro used one of Mainoo celebrating and Zirkzee followed with anime character Goku regenerating in a tank.
Mainoo has hardly featured for the Red Devils this season, and wasn’t selected by Thomas Tuchel for England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.
The out-of-favour midfielder asked for a loan move away from Man Utd as the summer transfer window came to a close, but was told he must stay and fight for his place under Ruben Amorim.
The dynamic No8 was an unused substitute in the first two Premier League games against Arsenal and Fulham, before playing 45 minutes in Man Utd’s only win of the season so far against Burnley.
Mainoo will be hoping his hard work is rewarded by Amorim with a start when the Red Devils take on Manchester City at the Etihad after the international break on September 14.
